How to write a love letter (propose magazine)

Things to include in your love letter

1) A meaningful greeting

A meaningful greeting makes the best part of a love letter. When addressed with love and warmth, it prompts the other person to read with an open heart. It is not necessary to be formal. Addressing them with sweet names like ‘buttercup’. ‘Honey’, and ‘sweet pie’ makes the letter sound vulnerable and romantic. However, if you have trouble addressing such names, starting with their first name is always intimate.

2) Share your romantic moments

Recall your romantic moments and pen them in your letter. Remember the times when you realized that you are extremely grateful to have them in your life. Recalling the nostalgia and capturing the emotions will ensure a free flow of writing and you will immediately fill up the pages in no time.

3) State why you love them

Instead of stating plainly that you love them, list out the why’s. Why you love them, why you want to be with them and no one else? Dig deeper and answer those questions such as why you love their kindness, their generosity, their personality…etc. Answering these questions will show that instead of just telling them those few magic words, you took the effort to let your emotions flow and show them your most vulnerable state.

4) Be honest and open

Expressing and putting yourself out there is a sign of true love. Being honest in your letter and being able to open up about your feelings, even if via a letter, says a lot about your personality. And of course, those 3 magic words always work wonders.

5) Inspire from the best

Sometimes you might not get those words to express yourself which is fine. In this case, you can get some really cool inspiration from movies, books, songs, and other romantic quotes.

  • “I think I’d miss you even if we’d never met.” -The Wedding Date

  • “If I had a flower for every time I thought of you… I could walk through my garden forever.” -Alfred Tennyson

  • “In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours. In all the world, there is no love for you like mine.” -Maya Angelou

  • “When I look into your eyes, I know I have found the mirror of my soul.” -Joey W. Hill

  • “Whenever I am home with you, you make me feel I am home again.” -The Cure

6) Retouch the future

Talking about future plans is always exciting and everybody loves to hear that. Talk about going on an exciting trip, buying a new home, starting a family, or merely growing old, grey, and wrinkly together. Such things touch the heart and make one go into deep thoughts, just like the letter you drafted for them.

7) An I love You a day keeps all the troubles away

The term “I love you” is surely overrated, but sometimes even a simple “I love you” can save a fight or a relationship. Ending the note on something sweet gives the whole letter a sparkling touch. Almost like these simple words would keep all your troubles away.
